Can I use Ravello to restore a Windows image to a cloud VM (e.g. AWS)
    Content:

    Hello,

I have Windows backup images which I want to test restore.

Can I use Ravello to boot an ISO to a PE recovery environment, which I can then use to restore the backup images?

Either on AWS or some other cloud provider?

    Thanks

    VW

On Dec 28th, my application was shut down by some automatic process without knowing about it, and when I returned everything was off. Upon startup, it appears all my Elastic IP addresses are gone. Is it possible to get them back?

REST API calls, error-code and error-message
    Summary:
Is there an overview of the error-codes returned by the REST API?
    Content:

The REST API Reference does show the possible HTTP Status Codes, but the REST API also return an ERROR-CODE and ERROR-MESSAGE.
Is there a list of these ERROR-CODEs available somewhere?

Name field in the new network components not consistently...Answered65.0

    Title:
Name field in the new network components not consistently used
    Summary:
The optional name field in the new network components can be set, but it's not returned when not set. And apparently completely ignored by the Web GUI.
    Content:

With the new network components (subnet, switch, port and the services: router,DNS,DHCP), there is an optional name field that can be set when calling the create REST API for each these.
But, the name field is not returned when retrieving one of the network components when the name is not set at creation time.
The name field is returned when it was set at creation time.
Shouldn't the 'get' function always return the name field, even when not set or blank?
Now the REST API method to 'get' one of these components returns different objects, depending on whether the name field was set or not at creation time.
Consistency of the returned objects would be preferred imho.

On a side-note, when the name field is set, the Web GUI keeps using the default names (Router1, DNS Server 1...)

Can we create an Application without the new Network...35.0
Topic posted July 15, 2018 by Luc DekensBlue Ribbon: 750+ Points
    Title:
Can we create an Application without the new Network features?
    Summary:
In the current version when one creates an application, there is automatically some minimal network configuration added. Is it possible to bypass this feature, via the GUI ro via the REST API?
    Content:

The Create Application REST API seems to say that the caller can construct the 'network', but when using this parameter, the created application still contains the automatic basic network.
The returned Application object does have a field named 'usingNewNetwork', but that is always set to True.
And there doesn't seem to be an option to set this parameter to False in the call to the REST API.

The reason for asking this option: in an automated build of an application, one would prefer to be able to always get the same result. With this automated addition of basic network functionality, the same result is not guaranteed.

Mind, I do appreciate the new network feature, it is useful in 90% of my use cases. But I would prefer to have an option where I can select to use it or not.

    Title:
Elastic IP - sometimes only working after a disconnect-connect
    Summary:
Sometimes I just can't reach the elastic IP that I attached to one of my VMs. When I disconnect/connect the elastic IP from the VM, it works again.
    Content:

Sometimes I can't reach (intermittent) the elastic IP that I attached to one of my VMs.
When I switch back to a public IP + Save/Update, and then go back to the same elastic IP + Save/Update, the elastic IP is reachable again.

    Is this a known issue?
    Or am I overlooking something?

    Content:

When one creates a DNS entry via the GUI, the IP property can only be a NIC on an existing VM.
Is there a way to pre-populate the DNS zone with a number of A- and PTR-type entries, without already having a NIC with the specific IP?

Boot DISK can not be empty.Answered104.5

    Title:
Boot DISK can not be empty.
    Summary:
Boot DISK can not be empty.
    Content:

Since yesterday evening I keep getting the error "Failed publishing <applicationame>. Boot DISK can not be empty." when I try to Publish a new application.
In the application there is only 1 VM, which I started from the "Empty Esx" VM template.

This worked a day ago, but now I can't seem to get around this error.

Any clue how to analyse and/or fix?
