R13.19A OTBI Direct Database Query Privilege Change64.0
Topic posted February 6, 2019 by Ling XiangGold Trophy: 10,000+ Points, tagged OBI Answers, OBIEE Answers, OTBI in Reporting and Analytics for ERP public
    Title:
R13.19A OTBI Direct Database Query Privilege Change
    Summary:
In R13.19A OTBI direct database query has been disabled by default. To prevent reports generating system errors, BI Administrator can modify BI privileges to revert this change.
    Content:

    What is the Change?

Prior to R13.19A, BI Administrator has the privilege to create and run Direct Database Query in BI Answers.  In R13.19A, this feature has been disabled by default.  Specifically, two privileges that control direct database query access, namely ‘Edit Direct Database Analysis’ and ‘Execute Direct Database Analysis’,  have been denied for authenticated users.

Reports created with ‘Direct Database Query’ option prior to R13.19A will receive a system error when executed in R13.19A.  To prevent the system error, customers can revert the R13.19A privilege changes by granting BI Administrator privilege to both ‘Edit Direct Database Analysis and ‘Execute Direct Database Analysis’.

Please note: This change does not affect BI Publisher SQL reports created with BI Publisher Data Model or BI Answers reports created with Logical SQL.

    How to revert the change?

BI Administrator can modify direct database analysis privileges in BI Administration -> Manage Privileges page.  To grant BI Administrator access to direct database query, customers can remove ‘Authenticated User’ that has ‘Denied’ permission from the seeded privileges and add a new role of ‘BI Administrator Role’ with ‘Granted’ permission.

Repeat the same step to grant ‘BI Administrator Role’ to ‘Execute Direct Database Analysis’ privilege.

    Future Product Direction

Direct database query is not a supported OTBI feature for building reports.  Customers are encouraged to use BI Answers to create interactive analyses, use BI Publisher for fixed-format reports and use BI Cloud Connector (BICC) for data extraction.  If customers have created OTBI reports with Direct Database Query option, Oracle development strongly recommends migrating those reports to use OTBI subject areas as Direct Database Query will be deprecated in OTBI in 12 months.

Please refer to attached document for more detailed information.  If you have further questions, please contact Oracle Support.

R13.19C Introducing OTBI Metadata Independent Mode Using BI...55.0

    Title:
R13.19C Introducing OTBI Metadata Independent Mode Using BI Cloud Connector (BICC)
    Summary:
Opt in to use the OTBI Metadata Independent Extract Mode in BICC introduced in R13.19C.
    Content:

    What is the Change?

Starting in Release 13.19C, BICC will no longer be dependent on the OTBI metadata repository, and the extract mode by default will use the OTBI metadata independent mode. Data Stores (or BIVOs) can be extracted independent of OTBI Metadata (RPD). The new BIVOs introduced in future releases of Oracle Applications Cloud will use OTBI metadata independent mode. The new mode eliminates the dependency on the existence of a BIVO in the OTBI metadata.

How to Opt In to use the OTBI Metadata Independent Mode for Extraction?

Refer to the attached document for detailed steps to opt in.

    Future Product Direction

The OTBI metadata (RPD) dependent mode is going to be deprecated in Release 20C. Oracle Development strongly recommends that you switch your BICC extracts to use OTBI metadata independent mode by 20C. Refer to the attached document for more detailed information.  If you have further questions, contact Oracle Support.

Receiving Error When Prompting Values from Field Created...5.0
Topic posted October 1, 2019 by Kamran ButtRed Ribbon: 250+ Points, tagged BI Publisher, Fusion Financial reporting, OBI Answers, OBIEE Answers, OTBI, Public Sector in Reporting and Analytics for ERP public
    Title:
Receiving Error When Prompting Values from Field Created from a Case Statement
    Summary:
Cannot function ship the following expression: EVALUATE. (HY000)
    Content:

I have created a Dashboard Analysis and Prompt from the following subject area: Subledger Accounting - Journals Real Time.

The requirement is to have the ability to filter the Analysis by the individual COA segments like users can do currently in several ERP modules (i.e.Fund, Department, Account, Function Project). The following columns are available: Fund, Department, and Account. The following columns are not: Function, Project.

I created the columns by using a CASE statement and the Concatenated Segments column:

    • Function: (CASE WHEN LENGTH ("GL Account"."Concatenated Segments") = '38'  THEN SUBSTRING ("GL Account"."Concatenated Segments" FROM 12 FOR 5) ELSE NULL END)
    • Project: (CASE WHEN LENGTH ("GL Account"."Concatenated Segments") = '38'  THEN SUBSTRING ("GL Account"."Concatenated Segments" FROM 25 FOR 6) ELSE NULL END)

I added these same columns to a Dashboard Prompt and the prompts correctly display the distinct values as expected. However, when we run the report and filter for a particular Function or Project, I receive the following error: Cannot function ship the following expression: EVALUATE. (HY000).

I have the EVALUATE_PREDICATE permissions for BI Consumer role granted. I also added it to my own user just to confirm, but I still receive this error. I am including the XML for the report for your reference if needed.

Any thoughts on how to work around this? Thanks!

    -Kamran

Release 11 Data Lineage Guide for FSCM (Financials,...25.0
Topic posted September 28, 2016 by Anand DNBronze Medal: 1,250+ Points, tagged BI Publisher, Fusion Financial reporting, Fusion Project reporting, Fusion Supply Chain Management reporting, OBI Answers, OBIEE Answers, OTBI, Reports in Reporting and Analytics for ERP public
    Title:
Release 11 Data Lineage Guide for FSCM (Financials, Projects, Supply Chain)
    Summary:
The Data Lineage Guide provides a mapping of the BI Subject Area columns to source data base tables and columns. It also has the View Object (VO) names for each column.
    Content:

    What is it ?

The Data Lineage (DL) Guide is a spread sheet that provides a mapping of OTBI Subject Areas and their Presentation Columns, i.e., the attributes and metrics used for report building on the one hand  and the transaction database tables and columns on the other and everything in between. Between the Subject Area Columns and the source database columns are the 'View Objects' or VO's that provide the abstraction layer on top of the source database. The VO names are provided as well.

    Notes

    1. DL guide is for out of box functionality and does not contain any customer specific customization information, such as Flex fields created on site.

    2. DL Guide is available only to implementing customers and partners. It is NOT part of external facing  product documentation.

    Why use it?

If you are an implementing customer or partner/SI, the DL guide helps you in understanding coverage of various source tables and columns, including out of box support available for Flex fields (DFF's and KFF's)

If you are a report author, the DL Guide is perhaps the only document that provides a detailed documentation of Subject Area Folders (Presentation tables) and Columns. This is useful information while building ad-hoc reports.

    Release 11 view issues

    Title:
    Release 11 view issues
    Summary:
Two views are not the same in Release 11 as they were in Release 10
    Content:

We recently were upgraded to R11 and I found two BI Answer views that are not the same as in R10 and causing issues.

The Performance Tiles; one of the layouts had a line in the middle - in R11 is just a dot on the left side.

Pie Graph - setting the data labels to 'Always' show data values now overlaps the values when pie sections are closer together

Is anyone else seeing these issues? Any thoughts on how to reverse them?

    Thank you,

    Shawn
