    Title:
Configuring Dreamweaver access to the Customer Portal Studio
    Content:

Hello there, we're trying to configure Dreamweaver to access the ustomer Portal Studio. We've followed all the steps but get stuck when we have to log in. I'm not sure if our userid has rights to use the RightNow site?

    Thanks,

    Sarah

Dave posted an overview of WebDAV options here. The summary follows.Adobe Dreamweaver’s WebDAV client has significant shortcomings including
    • being unable to use an HTTP proxy,
    • being likely to fail when accessing servers across the Internet due to low latency tolerance,
    • and being slow due to making redundant requests.
Unfortunately, all versions of Microsoft Windows except Vista SP1 have limitations that should make you think twice before using them as the WebDAV client for Dreamweaver. The best WebDAV solution on Windows is to use a third party WebDAV client, such as NetDrive or WebDrive, which can mount the remote folder as a local drive.Mac OS X’s WebDAV client can also be used to reliably make remote files available to Dreamweaver. Some networks are configured to require the use of HTTP proxies, to deny certain types of HTTP requests, or both. Such configurations either hinder or prohibit WebDAV access.

In order to log in to the Dreamweaver extension, all you need is the WebDav access bit set on your profile. The checkbox for this is in the Administration area of the Common tab on the Account Profile page. Let me know if that doesn't solve your problem.

Your user id has a profile associated with it. That profile needs to have the WebDav checkbox checked in order for you to access the extension. Profiles are in the Common Administration console

If you can get into the tag gallery - http://<your site>/ci/tags

then you have the corrrect permissions

We can get into http://stellarsupport.custhelp.com/ci/tags and we can see the files under http://stellarsupport.custhelp.com/dav/euf but we can't use Dreamweaver to download the files.

      We get the following error:

Cannot display the the remote folder: An HTTP WebDav error occured. Dreamweaver cannot get a listing for the folder you specified. Make sure you have proper authorization on the server, and the server is properly configured.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

At what point in Dreamweaver are you getting this error? Have you created a site in Dreamweaver and are trying to get the files, or do you get this error when going to Commands->RightNow->Login to Rightnow?
    • lf41530

We've already created the site, I followed the instructions line by line. I get the error when it wants to start downloading the files to my pc. It asks for my password; after I enter the password and click on Ok I get the error.

      Thanks

      Here's two things to try

      1. Go to Site -> Manage Sites, find your site and hit 'Edit'. On the Advanced Tab, go to Testing Server. It should show a login and password box. Fill those out and hit the Test button. Does this return a success message?

      2. In the bottom part of Dreamweaver there is a 'Results' pane which should have a 'FTP Log' tab on it. When you put in your password and get the error when trying to download files, it should start populating that pane with HTTP request traffic. Could you look at that traffic and see what reponse code the server is returning?

      Thanks.

This does not return a success message. It brings back the same error I mentioned earlier.

The FTP Log does not populate. When I try to download the files it immediately asks for my password. When I enter it in, it gives me the error and it does not do anything else.

      Thanks.

So just to confirm, can you hit http://stellarsupport.custhelp.com/dav in a browser window and log in fine there? Have you tried connecting using Windows Web Folders?
    • lf41530

We can view the contents of the dav folder using http://stellarsupport.custhelp.com/dav with the same username and password we're using to configure dreamweaver.

    • Ernie Turner
I understand that, but what I'm wondering is what are you using to view the contents of http://stellarsupport.custhelp.com/dav that does work? A browser, Windows Web Folders, or some other WebDav client?
    • lf41530
      We're using a browser.
    • Ernie Turner
Could you try and log in using Windows Web Folders and let me know if that works for you?
    • lf41530

It works using Windows Web Folders. Would you be interested in doing a NetMeeting to speed this up? We're really interested in getting this thing figured out as soon.

      Thank you

Hi lf41530 - based on an update we got this morning, it sounds like you are only experiencing this issue at work and not at home, so we'll need to confirm whether port 80 (http) or port 443 (https) are being filtered at the firewall level.

I have created an incident for this issue and our support staff will provide additional assistance in order to help resolve this problem for you.

I seem to be having the same problem...and I assume the difficulty is being caused by the work firewall. I get the same error referenced above when hitting the test button for both the remote server and the test server. I can connect to and browse the site just fine from WebDAV however. Any help would be appreciated.
