    Item structure in Process manufacturing
    Summary:
    Item structure in Process manufacturing
    Content:

    Hi Champs,

Why is it that in process manufacturing we do not have item structure and that we need to add the items ad-hoc in work def at operation level?

It also means that we cannot have substitute item feature to it.

Is this an intended design and if so ,why?

Any inputs to this would be much appreciated since i'm fairy new to the process manufacturing

    Thanks,

    Sunil

      Hi Sunil,

For process manufacturing work definitions, what you describe is the intended design/behavior.

Reference and usage of a formula (that represents an item structure in process manufacturing) in the process manufacturing work definition will be evaluated based on customer feedback.

      Thanks

      Aravindan

        Thanks for the explanation Aravindan!

Could there be any other compelling reasons that influences such a design approach of not having a item structure for Process Manufacturing.

        Thanks,

        Sunil

          Hi Sunil,

Item structure represent the bills of material of an item. It always represent for one unit of product item. But in OPM, formula is defined for more than one (1) unit of primary product. Even in OPM formula, we can have multiple product (Co-Product ) and By-Product as well. So, there is a lot of differences between item structure and OPM Formula structure. I think , due to this reason, item structure is not applicable for OPM products at this moment.

Currently we cannot define the effective start or end date of the items added in the process work definitions. Is there a future release where this would be allowed?
