    Title:
    Custom Dimensions
    Summary:
Setting Parents to Dynamic and not Never Share
    Content:

    Hi,

Is there a performance impact if we change all the parent members in the custom dimensions to dynamic so we can share the parents?  EIther in consolidation or Smart View retrieve?

    Notes

    • We have ~2,000 members (~500 parents)
    • We do not have extended dimensions
    • We have Ownership turned on
    • The primary is above the placement of the shared member (the primary hierarchy is above the alternate hierarchy)

    Version:

    19.11.57

SACBAC, it may significantly increase the data retrieval time if changed to Dynamic Calc. Change it to dynamic in test environment and calculate the data retrieval time to see if the retrieval time is OK for the users. If the retrieval time significantly increases, use the Dynamic Calc and Store option and test it again.

      Thanks,

      Hamid

      Hi,

If you read the admin guide or if you see the sample application then you will find that for two dimension applications Oracle is suggesting to keep parents as Never share while for extended dimension applications Dynamic Calc is suggested,

So according to your application you can look into the same.
