    Title:
Not able to create category hierarchy for Functional Area Catalog
    Summary:
For Functional Area Catalog (Procurement, Inventory), customer requires category hierarchy. However "Enable hierarchy for catalog" flag is greyed out and not allowed to be checked.
    Content:

Customer requires category hierarchy to be built for Functional Area Catalog (Procurement, Inventory). However "Enable hierarchy for catalog" flag is unchecked by default. Customer needs a hierarchy for these catalogs. How to select this flag? Any way we can select the flag and build category hierarchy?
I observe that "Functional Area Parameters and Rules" are greyed out and selected with default values.
Customer needs hierarchy badly. Any help will be highly appreciated.

    Best regards

The functional area catalog for purchasing is a flat and just one level deep.

For procurement, a category hierarchy can be built via the below mentioned task

      'Manage Procurement Category Hierarchy'

The hierarchy we build using this task will have the leaf nodes as the categories defined in functional area catalog for purchasing.

        Thank you Niamath.
I guess with "Manage Procurement Category Hierarchy" we can define browsing categories hierarchy (used for self service procurement)?
The customer needs hierarchy or Procurement and Inventory functional area catalog - managed through Manage Catalog (PIM work area). Any pointers on it?

No Suresh. The 'Manage Catalog Category Hierarchy' task is meant for self service procurement browsing hierarchy.

The hierarchy built using ;Manage Procurement Category Hierarchy' is for core purchasing and can be leveraged in below areas:

          • Buyer assignment rules
          • Approvals based on category hierarchy
          • reporting
          • accounting based on category hierarchy

The Purchasing and Inventory Functional Area catalogs have rules defined by each of these areas and at this time both areas do not allow an hierarchy within their catalogs. The decision if hierarchy is used should be addressed to each of these areas.   The Self Service catalog that Procurement has uses the categories out of the Purchasing functional area to build their own hierarchical catalog.

      Thanks Steven.
The decision if hierarchy is used should be addressed to each of these areas - not sure I understood it. Are you referring to setup of these functional areas?

The functional area catalogs are controlled by rules that the Procurement and Inventory team specify, the PDH team codes the rule for each functional area, so the configuration and behavior of the each of the functional area catalog meets the requirements of the consuming programs within Procurement and Inventory.

        Thanks Steven.
Can you please point me to someone from Inventory development to check on this. I will post it Inventory forum as well.
