JCS-SX and its requirement for DB Schema Service?

I understand that JCS-SX requires the DB Cloud Service - Schema Service.  Does anyone know why JCS-SX is limited to the DB Schema Service?  Database access, database management tools, and the database size is limited when using the DB Schema Service.  For my use case, it would be more helpful to be able to connect JCS-SX to a standard DB Cloud Service.
