    Title:
Can you create a DNS A-type record without referring to a NIC?
    Summary:
Can you create a DNS A-type record without referring to a NIC?
    Content:

When one creates a DNS entry via the GUI, the IP property can only be a NIC on an existing VM.
Is there a way to pre-populate the DNS zone with a number of A- and PTR-type entries, without already having a NIC with the specific IP?

      Hi Luc

If you go on the Network tab, Ravello provides a virtual DNS server which has all the pre-populated entries; based on the NIC settings of the VMs. Additional entries can be created as well manually.

Also refer to the REST API documentation to update this programmatically.

      Hi Kunal,
Thanks for your reply, but I'm afraid that the additional entries are limited to NICs on existing VMs.ip-a.png

In this example I can indeed create a new A-type entry, but only with the NIC1 and NIC2 of the VM I already created (esx1) in the Application.

What I'm looking for is in fact the possibility to create an A-type entry for a VM that has not been created yet.
The reason why I want to do that, is that this new VM will be an appliance-style VM, and the appliance installation process looks up the IP address during installation.

I got somewhat around this by creating a dummy VM with a fixed IP, and using that NIC to create the DNS entry.
