    What's New in 18.11?

Another new month on our doorstep, so here we go again!  I’m sure you have been waiting with bated breath for my “What’s New” post, so here it is.

    1. New version of EPM Automate
      1. Supports the following new commands:
        1. addUsersToGroup and (wait for it)….
        2. removeUsersFromGroup.

The new commands allow you to add and remove a batch of users to/from an existing group in Access Control.  Yay!

    1. Includes enhancements to the following commands:
      1. assignrole – enhanced to provision users with roles belonging to a planning, consolidation, tax reporting, or data management application
      2. unassignrole – enhanced to revoke the application roles granted to a list of users in a .csv file
      3. provisionreport – enhanced to, optionally, generate a Provisioning Report, which lists only the pre-defined roles and inherited application roles to which users are assigned.  Currently and by default, this command now generates the classic Provisioning Report, which lists component roles that are subsumed (good word stolen straight from the What’s New doc) into the pre-defined roles
    1. New REST APIs for managing users (in line with above):  Add users to a group and Remove users from a group.
    2. Improved performance uploading/downloading files via EPM Automate commands:  copyfileinstance, downloadfile, and uploadfile
    3. New Data ID Column in Planning Metadata Extraction was added as part of the 18.09 daily maintenance (AKA AMW) optimization.  This Data ID column is a required field and cannot be disabled.  Leave this field blank when adding new members as the system with auto-generate a value.  For existing members, guess what… please leave the values in the Data ID column alone!  Be sure to update any processes for this additional, required column.
    4. New Smart View for Office version will be available in November, which includes new features such as:
      1. Drill-Through to Excel Sheets from EPM Cloud
      2. Attaching Files to Cells in Forms and Ad Hoc Grids
      3. Additional Information Added to Health Check
      4. Support for Oracle Sales Planning Cloud (a new service release in October 2018)
      5. General bug fixing
    5. Data Map and Smart Push bi-directional support between Strategic Modeling and Planning cubes
    6. User Preferences in the Simplified User Interface were updated/moved to Tools\User Preferences in the 18.09 update.  The What’s New doc has a table showing the old navigation path to ensure you are aware of the new path.
    7. New Expression Types in Data Integration are now available in the import format.  Expressions operate on the value that is read from the import file.  New target dimension expression types include Copy Source value, Prefix, Suffix, Substring, Replace, Default, Rtrim, Ltrim, Rpad, Lpad, Constant, Conditional, Split, and SQL.  These expressions can be used instead of member mappings for performing simple data transformations.  For large data sets, using import expressions for transformation should improve the data load performance
    8. Calc Manager Updates:
      1. New Aggregate Storage Functions in Calc Manager to filter the shared and dynamic members from the point of view (POV).  @FilterDynamic, @FilterShared, and @FilterSharedAndDynamic functions can now be used in the POV of an Aggregate Storage custom calculation or allocation.
      2. New Design-Time Prompt (DTP) Functions, @IsAncest and @IsChild, in Calc Manager are now available
      3. More functions to play nice with Bill Gates as @CalcMgrDateTimesToExcel function has been added in addition to the ones added last month.  This function converts multiple dates in YYYMMDDHHMMSS format to Excel dates.
    9. For you artistic types, Financial Reports now supports entering Hex values to customize the font color for text objects using either short RGB or long RRGGBB format.  Someone must have wanted to use some fun colors with their text objects.
    10. And, finally, my favorite… Improved Search for Forms, Dashboards, and Infolets!  Searching for Forms, Dashboards, and Infolets was always presented in the context of the folder structure, so you had to know the folder path where the search item was stored in order to find it.  Call me crazy but if you need to know the folder path then you probably didn’t need to use the search function.  You can now toggle between searching for these artifacts using the current hierarchical view or using the new flat view by selecting from the appropriate, new icons.  In flat view, the search will return all matching artifacts of that type in a flat list to easily allow you see the matching result set.   By default, the “Tree View” icon is active (colored in blue for those using default color scheme), so simply select the “Flat View” icon to remove all folders from the listing page.  Enter the search pattern and be amazed by the results!

    Upcoming Changes:

    1. As we have been documenting for several months, we expect to remove the ability to create NEW Composite Forms in a future update in 2019.  Existing Composite Forms will still work and can be edited but no NEW Composite Forms will be allowed after this change is implemented.
    2. Classic Dimension Editor will also be removed in a future update in 2019 as we continue to enhance the Simplified User Interface Dimension Editor (SUIDE).  As previously discussed on this forum, please log bugs and enhancement requests for the SUIDE via My Oracle Support and ensure Oracle Support puts "SUIDE" is in the name of the enhancement or bug.
    3. Proposed changes to application-level Access Control to improve integration across planning, consolidation and close, tax reporting, and EDMCS applications.  Predefined roles will no longer appear as Groups in Access Control.  This proposed change will NOT affect how you create and manage groups or use them for application-level access control.  If you are concerned with the impact of this change on your environment, please create a Service Request in My Oracle Support explaining your use case.  I copied this from my last What's New post and want to remind you that this is a "Proposed change," so please log SRs with any issues.

Hopefully you saw an enhancement that made you happy, so let me know which is your favorite new feature.

    Happy planning…

      Love these!!

      Improved Search functionality

Financial Reports now supports entering Hex values to customize the font color for text objects using either short RGB or long RRGGBB format.

Thanks for the update. On the New Data ID column for an import what will happen if the "Data ID" is blank but the member name exists already? Will a new member be created and if so what will happen to the original data?

      • Mark Rinaldi

Blank Data IDs are fine for any member.  If the member exists, it will use the existing Data ID in the system.  If the member doesn't exist, the system will automatically create one.  If it is a new member and you enter a Data ID, the system ignores your Data ID and automatically creates a new one for the new member.

        Does this make sense?

        • Brian Somers

Yes, thanks. Just to confirm the data is field is mandatory though so the file has to have this field even though it could be blank.

          • Mark Rinaldi

            Apparently so, yes.

            • Mark Rinaldi

It is always there on export and is optional for import.  This is mentioned so that those with processes in place are aware of a new column that will appear on the export. So, account for the column but you only need it as part of a cloning process from one instance to another.  However, you would probably do that via EPM Automate rather than import.
