I'm able to view the budget data by rebuilding a GL cube after uploading budgets.

Run the following scheduled process in a sequential order.

    1. Create General Ledger Balances Cube

    2. Create Rules XML File for BI Extender Automation

    3. Import Oracle Fusion Data Extensions for Transactional Business Intelligence

I believe budget balance is now available in BCEA Module.

      Try the below subject areas:

Budgetary Control - Balances Real Time

Budgetary Control - Transactions Real Time

      Thanks,

      Arun

Hi Arun, GL budget balances not coming to above subject areas in our instance. Can you get those?

        • Arun Raj

          Can you try these:

          1. Check the link https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E48434_01/fusionapps.1118/e49599/F1110420AN339C3.htm . Check the "Oracle Fusion Balances". Make sure you are not using any invalid combinations. More details can be found in section "Invalid Balance Cube Dimension Combinations: Explained".

If you still dont see data, then try the following

          2. Check the link https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E48434_01/fusionapps.1118/e49599/F1110420AN339C3.htm . The balances are now availabl ein the Essbase Cube and OTBI subject area is based on the Essbase cube. Check the section "GL Balance Cube Related Processes Run in ESS"

          3. Run the following (read the details before running these processes):

          • Create Cube
          • Publish Chart of Accounts Dimension Members and Hierarchies
          • Transfer General Ledger Balances to Essbase

          4. Try building the report again (refer to the steps in Point 1)

          Thanks,

          Arun

Thanks Arun for the reply, But still unable to get budget balances to GL subject areas. Can you get them in your instance?

            • Arun Raj

I am hoping you are creating the report correctly. Please refer to the Oracle Support note

OTBI - General Ledger - Balances Real Time Subject Area not Returning Data; More Information on General Ledger Subject areas (Doc ID 2177122.1)

              Thanks,
              Arun

Yes Arun, I can get a Actual balances without any issues.

Can you get the 'Budget' balances to GL subject areas in your instance?

                Thanks,

                Lakmal

My understanding is that, unless you have the planning and budgeting module, you can’t access budget information in OTBI. I experienced the same issue, so I just use the account inspector or create a Smart View or Financial Reporting Studio report.

Thank you Katy, I need the budget details on a OTBI dashboard.

        Hi Katy,

Oracle ERP Cloud comes with Essbase cubes and you can access balances from OTBI / Samrt View / FRS.

There are GL and BCEA subject areas available for you to check the balances. Here is a link to all the OTBI subject areas available in Fusion.

For GL and BCEA you can "Financials BI subject area"

         Hope this helps.

        Thanks,

        Arun

Thank you Arun. I've had a look at this but, while we can access our budget scenarios via FRS and Smart View, they're not available in OTBI - we don't use budgetary control so they don't appear in there, and the budgetary control subject areas don't include budget scenarios. Thanks for the list of OTBI subject areas though - much easier to read in the spreadsheet than in OTBI!

          Thanks,

          Katy

            Hi Katy,

You are correct. In Budgetary Control subject areas, you wont find scenarios. You are mostly gonna use the members and measurers in the "Balances" folder. You will be able to see "Initial Budget", "Budget Adjustments", "Total Budget", "Unreleased Amount" etc.

I do see Scenarios in "General Ledger Balances Real Time" subject area in OTBI.

Again scenarios in ERP is different from scenarios in Planning.

            Thanks,
            Arun

User can see budget and forecasts in 'General Ledger '  subject areas.   This feature was added in release 10.    Customer has to upload their budgets into GL, or use GL-PBCS integration to push the budgets into GL and those budgets will become available in the Scenario dimension.

BCEA  subject areas are for customer who uses budgetary control (public sector mostly).

    • Katy Harding

Thanks for all the help. Just to confirm, I am able to see Scenarios in the General Ledger section, but, even though I have created scenarios, they are blank in OTBI - I was advised at implementation that this is because we don't have the Planning & Budgets module, so I don't expect to see them. I use FRS or Smartview instead.

      Thanks,

      Katy

That's good news. Thanks for the update and the steps followed to solve the issue.

Step 1 might be overkill.  After a new budget is loaded, some process needs to be run for the budget to show up in the Scenario dimension in the GL balance cube.  However, I am not sure a full cube rebuilt is required.  If I get more info, will let you know.

Step 2 and 3 only need to be done when initially mapping the GL Balance cube into OTBI.  However, they don't need to be repeated after new budgets are loaded into the system.

          Hi Richard,

Whenever there is a change in the hierarchy / hierarchy version, we have noticed that the old hierarchy / hierarchy version is visible in the GL Essbase cube. We had to re-build the cube to remove references to the old hierarchy (which is in draft / inactive status).

          Thanks,
          Arun

This resolved our issue with the support from Oracle. I understand it may not be a general practise. Just wanted to share the solution if someone came across the same issue.
