    Title:
[Cloud wallet credentials] tnsnames.ora file contains other database related net service names
    Content:

Is this fine? When we want to connect to a database & by mistake if we chose other database tns alias name, connection will happen as tnsnames.ora is having other database net service names.

Ideally, it should not allow the connection & should say invalid alias name.

Depending on where when you click to download the wallet On the OCI console there are now two options on the pop-up form when you click on the "DB Connection" button to download the wallet:

    • Instance wallet (default)
    • Regional wallet

Instance wallets contain credentials only for a single Autonomous Database (with high, medium, low services listed). Regional wallets contain credentials for all Autonomous Databases in the currently selected region. For more information about this feature click here.

If you download the wallet from the ADW Service Console for your specific instance then this will generate an instance-only wallet, i.e. there is no option to change the type of wallet as you see on the OCI console.

    Hope this makes sense.

        Thanks.

I think these options (Instance wallet & Regional wallet) were introduced recently. Last week or back, only one option was there to download.

The other thing to point out is that when you specify a connection to an ADW you have to provide a valid database username and password. Therefore, when you are making a connection from a tool or app and you pick the wrong service name by accident then the connection will fail because the either the username does not exist in that ADW instance or the password is incorrect. BUT this assumes you are not reusing the exactly same usernames and passwords across multiple ADW instances which - would not be a good idea for obvious reasons!
