What is NAMESPACE regarding Object Storage and is it same as tenancy?
    Content:

Is the namespace for object storage will be the same as tenancy? Can it be different?

Namespace is given during instantiation of your tenancy; typically it's the same name as your tenancy.  You can find more info here:  https://docs.cloud.oracle.com/iaas/Content/Object/Tasks/understandingnamespaces.htm

Also, be advised that some data services that leverage Automated Backups (DBS, ATP, etc) direct the backups to an Oracle defined Namespace that's outside of your tenancy.  You can leverage RMAN to redirect backups to the OBJ STG in your tenancy, which gives you better access (URI) to your backups/archives.

Yes the namespace is the same name as your tenant name.

If you have the OCI CLI tool installed and properly configured you can run the following command to show your namespace:

      oci os ns get

With older tenancies, it's been identical. In current tenancies, it's the tenancy ocid after conversion to lowercase.

      Per this doc: https://docs.cloud.oracle.com/iaas/Content/Object/Tasks/understandingnamespaces.htm...

Each Oracle Cloud Infrastructure tenant is assigned one unique and uneditable Object Storage namespace that spans all compartments within a region.

The doc implies that the namespace for a given tenancy COULD be different for each region. Is that the intended meaning?

Currently, when i check in console for different regions, Object Storage Namespace is same. How to validate this?

      • Kumar Dhanagopal

I got an answer to my above question from engineering:

For a tenancy, each region has it's own namespace -- meaning bucket names must only be unique in that region -- however the name of the namespace -- for example 'ocitsammut' or 'r1wlkfj324234' -- is the same for all regions. It is not possible for a tenancy to have one namespace name in one region and another namespace name in another.
