    Title:
    Custom Fields Mapping
    Content:

    Hi,

I have a requirement to limit the number of digits that can be entered in a custom field (Data Type: Text Field, Usage: Plain Text).

Basically, I need to make sure it is at least 5 digits and no more than 9. I tried [0-9]{5-9} in the Mask field but it would not accept it.

These should be numeric values only. I understand it would be easy using the Data Type: Integer, but this did not work for us as it is prone to mistakes (can be changed by scrolling the mouse wheel).

Any ideas how this can be achieved?

Alternatively, if it is easier, can this maybe be achieved through the Workspace Rules?

    Many thanks

    Pavol

Try using a system attribute.  They are similar overall to custom fields, and in regards to the masking functionality they allow you to define a regular expression as a pattern (such as you have referenced).  Custom fields have input masks but these do not appear to be as dynamic as the masking capability within system attributes.

One gotcha though, if you need to use this field within business rules then system attribute may not be an option as they are not exposed to business rules.
