    Title:
Changing the width of the Announcements Column through the CP
    Content:

I'm probably overlooking something very obvious, but I'd like to make the Announcements column on our home page wider - and can't find where to do it.

I've checked all the pages associated with the widget (I believe I have anyway), and can't find anything. I made the underlying graphic wider and longer - it shows up longer but not wider.

Can someone point me in the right direction? We are using Aug. 08 CP.

    Thank you!

There are a number of rules within the rn_basic.css stylesheet that need to be modified to stretch the entire width of the container. I'll try to go through all of them, just search through rn_basic for these selectors.

#rn_outerwrapper - Increase the width rule, I upped it to 860px

#rn_innerwrapper - Increase the width rule, I upped it to 830px

#rn_sidebar .rn_sidebartextbox - Change background image URL to background: url(/euf/assets/images/bg_db_greybtm.png)

    #rn_sidebar .rn_wrap - Comment out background image

#rn_secondarywrapper - Increase the width rule, I upped it to 830px

#rn_sidebar - Increase the width rule, I upped it to 260px

    #rn_sidebar .rn_sidebartextbox - Increase the width rule, I upped it to 260px

Here is an image of the resulting page, I didnt see any problems with scrollbars after I made these changes.

The width of that column is controlled by CSS. We recommend using Firebug to investigate how CSS causes the page to layout and to quickly experiment with changes. With it, you can find the relevant bits that set the width.  From taking a quick look, I'm going to guess you'll have to change at least three CSS rules in /euf/assets/css/rn_basic.css to make it look good.  You'll probably want to start with rn_sidebar and rn_sidebartextbox.

Please let me know if you need more help.

      Thank you,

Thanks for the input Leif. I did try changing the rn_sidebar and rn_sidebartextbox in the rn_basic.css - and instead of widening the box it put scroll bars along the side of the Announcement column and along the bottom of the two main columns on the page.  Can you tell me what tags I should be looking for in the CSS to turn off the scroll bars? or is that even possible?

      Thanks!

I really appreciate the help, but I still must be doing soemthing wrong.... after following you suggestion below, the home page looks like this in the development site (see image at bottom). the Announcement text is all the way at the bottom. Any idea where I went wrong?

Thank you again for all your help and suggestions.

      An AHA! moment.

I had commented out "#rn_sidebar .rn_wrap - Comment out background image" and when I un-commented it out (or put it back in actually, ) everything seems to line up correctly - and the width of the announement box seems to have changed appropriately.

Thanks so much for your help!!!
