    [Delivered Idea][14B.2] Course/Class/ILT Search Enhancements
    [14B.2] Course/Class/ILT Search Enhancements
    Use Case and Business Need:

I want to see a more robust Course/Class/ILT search engine which provides advance search options to better help narrow down what a user is looking for.

Some advanced search features to include:

    • "All of these words"
    • "None of these words"
    • Search for either a Title OR Descripion or Both
    • Provide ability for keyword search (We would need the ability to add keywords to the course properties)
    • Allow for including categories in the search
    • Provide suggestions for words like Google does...particularly in those instances where there is a typo or you made a word in the title plural.
    • Provide suggestions for other similar training
    • Search by training creation date range
    • Provide a widecard option
    • Search by course properties

I would also like to see the wording changed for "Course" and "Classes" into one checkbox called Web Based Training (WBT)...(users don't understand SCORM/AICC courses vs classes).

A more robust Search feature has been on the Learn Center roadmap for several years, but it always keeps getting pushed back in the development cycle. The Search feature has been a Top 5 request from our users for quite a while.

They could even use a search similar to the new user search.

Other items I have had requested:

The ability to print the pages to PDF  or another document with the results of the search.

Ablity to choose the fields we would like displayed in the seach - like the description, publisher. etc

      Thanks for writing this up

This  feature is currently planned for development in 2013.

I would also love to see more data in the search returns. For courses, specifically, I would like to see the username of the person who created the course, and what LearnCenter the course was created in. This would be immensely helpful to me, and I am sure to others as well.

Padmaja said it's planned for development in 2012 -- which ends in ~3 weeks. Did this roll out and I missed it? Seems like that's not going to happen. We would LOVE (L-O-V-E!) the search functionality to improve. We actually just found out that it exists, and already are disappointed because we can't use it as-is.

It would also be great if the Search would display some returns when you first go to it. It is confusing to have to click the Search button to see any content at all.

And, some of the Search windows save the prior search, but not all do. I think it would be better to not save the last search - or to have that as an option in each search area that you can turn on and off for that particular search (i.e. sometimes it is helpful to save the last search, but usually for me it is not and only confuses my searching).

      Hi Sara,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention.I have updated the year.

Advanced Search is now planned for 2013.

We are also having a Focus Group on this item, thought you might be interested.

Just wanted to let community know that enhancing search is still something we are planning to address in Learn. For those that were able to attend, I believe the roadmap review session held last week included Search.

Additionally there will be a focus group event dedicated to Search coming up in either January 2013.  During this session we'll be looking for the communities' feedback on mock-ups and the direction we are planning to develop.

Are the Search enhancements still planned for 2013? What about Social Learning and Mobile operability?
