    Title:
    Username Update in R12
    Summary:
How to update a username in R12
    Content:

I created a username as bob.smith@xyz.com, but wanted it to be bob.smith (without the @domain).

Prior to the new Security Console, I could go in to OIM and make this change, but OIM is now gone and the username is grayed out in the Console.

    Am I missing something?

If you have the userid you should be able to update using the user id as well.

Please get the user id from the per_users table for the users which you want to update and then try updating based upon the user id.

It can be done from the Manage User Management from HCM (person management).

      Thanks,

      MSrinivasu.

That makes sense. But what if they weren't set up as a worker (since this person is an implementation user)?

      Hi Ryan,

if you can upload files using HDL then you can use the following option to update usernames.

Updating the User Name for an Existing User
This file creates a request to update the user name for the user identified by the specified person number.
      User.dat
      METADATA|User|PersonNumber|Username
      MERGE|User|12312|john.scott@vision.com

I dont think non workers will have a person number. using this User.dat HDL route you can only update the username of employees.

So it sounds like if you set up an Implementation username incorrectly (maybe spelled wrong), you're stuck.

Not really. We had the same issue with some of our users for whom we created an account, outside their regular employee accounts.

Oracle has Rest APIs, which will allow you to access security console, and update usernames. The one problem, Rest APIs are under limited availability, for which you have to first work with Oracle to have it released to your environment. then you can start building tools for using these APIs.

          Thanks

            Atul

Can you please share the REST api details? Is it part of the Worker Service or a seperate user service?

            Thanks

In order to access the REST APIs, you need to first work with Oracle, put a strong business case for them to have it published to your pod.

Assuming you have done the prerequisite, the URL is https:// <YOUR POD>/hcmCoreApi/resources/latest

              Thanks

I've been hearing for a long time that the REST APIs for Financials were coming in R12, then R13... but it's still mostly SOAP. Anyone happen to know what's going on?

              • Mansur Khalil

Thanks Atul, i will see if i can open up that REST web Service.

      Hi Mansur,

Ryan is expecting how to edit the user name where the user name was created in security console or user name was created in OIM before upgrade but not from HCM.

      • Ryan Tilles

Correct. I wanted the username to be Admin (for example), but instead the system overrode it and made the username the same as the email address.

Before the new Security Console. I could go directly in to OIM and change the username there.. for both normal users (workers) and Implementation users (users created directly in OIM).

      Hi Ryan

I did some research on Oracle Support and found the below details. as per that we would not be able to update the Implemenation users username. the only way is to update from OID which may be an SR.

Here is the metalink note id. Fusion Applications - Security FAQ (Doc ID 1383852.1)

How to update an implementation user's username in fusion release 12 ?

In fusion release 12, security console replace OIM and APM, and user's username can not be updated in security console. for normal fusion users, customer can update user's username in Manage User page

or through HDL, but as implementation user does not have person record and person number, so the only way to update implementation user's username is to update it in OID and then run Retrieve Latest LDAP

Changes process.  Be careful, after the change, the user may lost its role assigned  before.

      Thanks

      Mansur Aulam

As per my understating it requires an SR to update the implementation user name in security console via OID.  Please confirm.

    • Mansur Khalil

yes Srini, we need to create an SR for updating via OID.

    • MShrini

      Hi Mansur,

Do you have any idea why this feature is removed by Oracle Development for the future versions and this was not mentioned in any user guides as well. Actually it should be there for future releases who are going to be implemented this fusion application by external users/implementations consultants.

    • Mansur Khalil

      Hi Srini

I believe Oracle is working on reverting some changes they have brought in R12 for Security Manager. I hope they will enable this in the next release itself.

      Thanks

Thanks Mansur for the quick update,  Is there any document/note provided by the Oracle which changes they planned for reverting in future releases ?
