Customers,
I wanted your responses on the following question:
Do your requesters use counts that are displayed in the Filters or Browse by Category structures on the Shopping Home Page? As you know, counts are displayed within parantheses on the Filters region or in the Browse by Category tree hierarchy.
The question is for me to simply glean usage and see if there are any valid business cases and if not, conclude that.
I would appreciate your participation.
Thanks
Ashok

Are you referring to the highlighted counts in uploaded image file?

Hi Ashok,
I would categorize it as nice fancy feature and I liked it. Here is a scenario - We have 2 item categories that have similar names(only last 3 characters are different), one has close to 40 items and another has only 5. When users are browsing the catalog, they quickly glance at the counts to figure out they are clicking the right category.

Vikram

So if it were not there, it would be total loss of functionality is a way I would interpret that.
Can you provide the example with the actual category names that you have in mind to place the explanation in better context?

Here are few category names. GEN stands for Generic which have more items. LBOAT is LiftBoat, CAT is Caterpillar and these categories have only few items, less than 5
Tunnel Thrusters and Drives GEN

These counts are not necessary for our business use.

The count is nice to have, but users should not be relying on it to select from their internal catalogs the items they are trying to purchase. My opinion is that the naming of the catalog would be more important and that is what I should be clicking to find the item I want to purchase.
Thanks!

That is a good point. From a best business practices point of view too, the naming of these categories has to be the way to help make the experience useful to the requester among other aspects but it is important.
