    Title:
OBIEE 12c / Financial Reporting Studio usage with Oracle Fusion Financial Cloud
    Summary:
Financial Reporting Studio for Customized Reporting need
    Content:

    Hi,

With earlier releases of on premise ERP products from Oracle we used  OBIA for any seeded / customized reporting. With the integration of Financial Reporting Center (FRC) in Oracle Fusion Financial Cloud , can we design all those reports that are provided OOTB in OBIA using Financial Reporting Studio ?.

    Regards,

    Andy,

Thanks for detailing me on various options. My current requirement is to create reports on real-time , hence I can go ahead using OTBI. For Data visualization in OTBI I am thinking of using d3js  if at all we require.

Unlike group account mapping in OBIA which we can used for creating Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss Statement reports, can I achieve the same using OTBI>

I have tried using d3js in OBIEE 11g but not sure if we can leverage the same in OBIEE 12c version.

      The short answer is No.

OBIA is a separate data warehouse-based reporting environment into which the standard ETL processes pull data from across the ERP suite and beyond.

FR in Financials Cloud is a very powerful tool for reporting on Financial Balances held in real-time in the Essbase cube that is built-in to the GL. FR is great for Financial Statements and other reports based on GL Balances (Actuals, Budgets etc). It also provides drill-down to associated journals and subledger transactions. BUT, FR only works with the Essbase Balances data, so you can't for example, write an FR report to show the list of Invoices for a given supplier, or the current aged debt position.

Financials Cloud also contains a more general BI facility known as OTBI, which is based on the same OBIEE technology traditionally used in OBIA. OTBI provides real-time reporting and dashboarding capability across all areas of the Cloud ERP and HCM suite. You may well find that some of the reports you used to create in OBIA can now be created in OTBI, with the added benefit that they'll report real-time data, rather than relying on an overnight refresh of the data warehouse.

However, there are some use-cases where OBIA is still the best product for your requirement. Examples include reports that need data from multiple sources, both within and outside the ERP system, reports that need to include historical snapshots (e.g. "How does the current debt aging for my customer compare to the position this time last year?"), or reports that require heavy duty data processing (e.g. Procurement Spend Analysis). In all of these use-cases (and others) the data warehouse that underpins OBIA allows it to do things that OTBI can't do (or can't do easily).

My advice then is to use the right tools for the right job: FR for real-time (and static) Financial Reports and Statements (P&L. Balance Sheet, Cash Flow etc), OTBI for real-time performance monitoring, exception reporting and process management, and OBIA for more strategic analysis of trends, correlations and aggregated multi-source data. OBIA can now be deployed on BI Cloud Service or Analytics Cloud as well as on-prem OBIEE12c, so you can also take advantage of the new "Data Visualization" capability in those platforms, which is fantastic, and isn't available in OTBI.

      Hope that helps.

      Andy

        Andy,

Can you run FCCS and EPBCS reports from Financial Reporting Center?
