    Smart View “No Data / Missing” Option Suppressing Zeroes
    Summary:
    The latest Windows version of Smart View incorrectly suppresses zeroes when “No Data / Missing” suppression is selected in the Smart View Data Options

    It appears that as of the May 2019 update (Version 11.1.2.5.900 Build 093), users can no longer leverage the “No Data / Missing” suppression options, instead they must use the “Suppress Missing Blocks” option when running Ad Hoc Analysis reports via the Smart View for Office Add-In (Microsoft Excel for Office 365 MSO, 64-bit) in order to suppress rows or columns that do not have data while retaining any rows or columns that have a zero value.

    Has anyone else noticed this odd behaviour? If so, have you filed an SR with Oracle reporting the bug?

    Under the "Legacy" Smart View Suppression Behavior, setting the "No Data / Missing" AND "Zero" suppression row options in Smart View (Options > Data Options > Suppress Rows) does NOT actually suppress rows that have BOTH a missing value AND a zero value. Therefore, the "Legacy" behavior does not respect a user's chosen row suppression options in such cases. 

    The "Standard" Smart View Suppression Behavior addresses this issue and when both the "No Data / Missing" AND "Zero" suppression row options are selected in Smart View (Options > Data Options > Suppress Rows) it correctly suppresses that row as per the options chosen. 

    The issue we found with the "Standard" behavior is that when ONLY the "No Data / Missing" row suppression option is selected in Smart View (Options > Data Options > Suppress Rows), it incorrectly suppresses that row if it has missing AND zero amount values.

    The "Standard" Smart View Suppression Behavior is the default setting for any new Planning clients. Oracle has acknowledged this is a bug and has opened the following for Development review: Bug 29966959 - EPBCS - USERS CAN NO LONGER LEVERAGE THE 'NO DATA / MISSING' SUPPRESSION OPTIONS

      Hi Irina,

      I tested this on PBCS using the same version of Smart View on Office 365 is it worked fine. I used an ASO and BSO cube for testing.

      I see your no missing label is empty. Is that on purpose?

        Hi Nathan,

        Yes, the no missing label was set to a blank value on purpose as per other reports our planners are used to in PeopleSoft. Just to confirm, are you using Smart View in Excel installed directly on your machine or via the web interface of Office 365?

      Thanks for your detailed issue description.  I think I've replicated the issue on SV 11.1.2.5.810 (Build 149), PBCS 19.06.82.

      I am querying an ASO cube.   Suppress missing block mode does work, but seems to add performance lag.  

      @Nathan, I changed suppression behaviour to 'Legacy' and it resolved the issue.

      In web applications, your administrator can use the Smart View Suppression Behavior option to change suppression behavior when both the Smart View No Data/Missing and Zero suppression options for rows, or columns, or both are selected.

      If the Smart View Suppression Behavior option in the web application is set to:

      • Legacy—Only suppresses rows or columns containing either all No Data/Missing or all Zeros. Does not suppress rows or columns containing a combination of No Data/Missing and Zeros. For example, in Smart View, if both the No Data/Missing and Zero suppression options are selected for rows, and a row contains both zeroes and Missing labels, then the row is displayed; it is not suppressed.

      • Standard—Suppresses rows or columns containing all No Data/Missing or all Zeros, or a combination of both. For example, in Smart View, if both the No Data/Missing and Zero suppression options are selected for columns, and a column contains both zeroes and Missing labels, then the column is suppressed; it is not displayed.

        Hi Geoff,

        I had never changed this setting. I assume Legacy is the default.

        @Irina - I assume this resolves the issue based on Geoff's testing.

      Update: As of release 19.09.72, the "Suppress Missing Blocks" option is no longer actually suppressing any missing blocks, so we have now lost our workaround to this issue. The related SR with Oracle is still open. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
