I observed another error. If you try to drill through in Smart View, it prompts asking whether to open it in browser or Excel, even if you have chosen "In new sheet" option under advanced settings.

Even after clearing IE cookies, I see the same behaviour.

Thanks, Venu. That makes sense. This application went live in Nov 2018 and thus all must have gone through. Now when I go in to edit some of these names, I encounter this issue. All makes sense now.

I also tried to give it an artifact label, but it doesn't accept there too. Is there a restriction in artifact labels too? it's just that users are now used to see their forms/tabs with this naming convention and I was trying to give it the same name.

    Celvin,

I thought so but what I observe this + is used in Calc Manager rules names when you export them from Calc Manager. With forms, it doesn't follow this approach and just exports it with space in name of xml file.

Moreover this restriction should be across artifacts and not just in navigation flow tab names. Somehow it doesn't seem to be a valid restriction to me

Sorry if I was not clear in describing the problem clearly.

I am trying to highlight the changes in the acceptance of names for navigation flow rather than the ability to manage artifact labels. The message which shows up is more of information rather than an error.

The names which were used to create the navigation flow tabs, almost a year back, are no longer acceptable if you edit them. The names which had 10+1 or 11+ are no longer acceptable with + sign. The question is some restrictions in place which do not accept these names.

I remember reading a note about the EPM Integration Agent where it says drill through to source will be possible even if drill through URL is not available. Can someone please provide more details and examples where this is possible and how?

    Mark and Pete,

Did some further testing with the "Address already in use(Binding error)" and observed that this shows up when we try to execute a rule from within Calc Manager. Seems like Calc Manager window loses connection to application and server throwing error. If you deploy a rule to app and execute them from Rules, they seem to finish successfully.

I guess I also observed similar issue with Data Management UI window. If you continue to work on it for a while, it would suddenly show 404-page not found.

Thanks Pete. I have a Clear Cube job defined to clear data from ASO cube. The job does a logical clear and takes 2-4 seconds when run manually as well when it gets triggered from EPM Automate. But when it loses connection, planning job console continues to show it in processing state unless you cancel it.

I tried resetting the service, but I saw it reappear. Since the model is still in the development phase, I too see it only in TEST environment. Other ASO cube clear jobs in PROD are running fine.

Mark - I have raised a SR with Oracle and submitted the snapshot of the application as well. SR 3-21436563451 : Planning losing connection with back end Essbase. I received a reply from support to test internet connection between the EPM Automate client machine and PBCS, which I believe is not the case here. Had it been an issue with internet connection, things would have completed in Planning and failed at EPM Automate level.

Another observation while running Groovy scripts and I believe they might be related, I get an error "Address already in use(Bind error)" when creating data grids. Not sure if this has something to do with this behaviour, this is a second ASO cube in the application created.

That's what I assume. I am wondering if we have an audit report which can help us determine which login removed it

  • Navan Mehra

Not sure, but I guess Integration cloud service has adapters for both ERP cloud and PBCS. You can explore this if you can subscribe to this service. I have not tried but integration cloud also helps you manage the automation schedule too.

Or if any third party integration service have Oracle Cloud ERP adapters, I am not sure. But that could be other possible way to skip file exchange.

    1. EPM Automate server is installed on one of the VMs

    2. We use Windows Task scheduler to schedule jobs for overnight. But you can use any scheduling tool

    3. Cloud ERP would drop it in SFTP location and files are then moved to an identified folder on EPM Automate server. We have written batch scripts to call EPM Automate commands. These batches would pick up the file from the drop location and upload it to Data Management inbox folder. A data rule is triggered which consumes this file and loads to cube

That's the way smart forms work, they create user variables

  • Navan Mehra

    1. I have seen forms with smartlists behaving weird on Dashboard. Smartlists members fail to respond, either the smartlist won't show up or if they show up, user cannot select any value

    2. The pie charts or Doughnut charts do not work the same way as they show up in sample charts. Not sure if anyone observed, in sample charts, doughnut chart would show %ages and when you hover your mouse over it, the value, wherein actual use, its the other way around. I raised a ticket with Oracle and got on a call with Dev team to share the behavior, was told it is not an important thing for dev team and ticket closed

We have done the following for one of our clients:

    1. OTBI extracts to export metadata and data from Projects module as flat files

    2. Data Management layer to push the data into PBCS application

    3. The extracts run overnight and automation managed using EPM Automate

Until you have a direct integration, flat file would be your best bet for Data. With the recent update to consume external web services, we are now using Groovy to update our metadata. We are doing this to import some of the procurement related stuff from cloud ERP, but you can also explore it for PPM if the web services are available (i guess there are). Unless you can think of splitting your data sets into really small chunks, I would not recommend pulling data via web services, but it all depends on the volume and how your application is structured. You might explore this option if you have groovy.

So far, the experience to build metadata using Groovy has been awesome and saves a lot of time, no dependency on file extracts and exchange of files and can be executed on demand.

Thanks, Aracelis. We have used up all our BSO and the model uses ASO. But now I am good and have shared my findings.

Thanks Manfredi.  I reassessed the setup I had in the DM. Everything worked fine for Numeric data load, but it was failing with All Data Type.

The finding was, in the Data Mapping i was using Qualified name of the member from the dimension due to which it was showing up as [Diemnsion].[Member]

Apparently, when you use data load method as "All Data Types", it doesn't like this format and throws an error --- found <string> and the ODI job fails. Whereas if you use the Numeric data load, the qualified name does not cause any issue

May be Oracle need to relook into this
